For those people who use a bicycle to get around Milan, using public transports as well, ATM allows free carriage on the tube.

Calendar and Timetables

From 4th May 2013 it will be possible to take bicycles on the tube in the following hours:

- from the service start till 7am

- from 10.30am to 4pm

- from 20 till the service end

- all day on Saturdays and Sundays
– In August: any day at any time.

You are allowed to do it on trams 7 and 31 as well, from the service start till 7 am and from 8pm till service end. At any time on Saturdays and Sundays.

Both on surface transport and tube, when allowed, bike carriage is free of charge. The service is not available in December.

It is recommended to always check times and periods before leaving by calling ATM Freefone 800.80.81.81. Tandem and motorcycles are not allowed.

If you have a folding bike, whose dimension not exceeds 80x110x40 cm, you are allowed to take it any day at any time. Without having to put it away in a bag.

Regulations

Here are the main rules to correctly use the service:
• a bike for each passenger
• enter and exit from platforms and station through the stairs
• you are allowed to use lifts, escalators are forbidden
• at turnstiles, to enter or exit the station, you are required to pass through the way dedicated to prams, pushchairs and bulky luggage located by the side of the operator booth and follow the signs
• you are allowed to get on the second and fifth couch – according to the direction of travel -, whose doors are marked with the relevant symbol
• only four bikes for each couch
• children under the age of 12 can take their bikes only if accompanied by an adult
• groups of more than 10 cyclists have to call ATM Freefone, two weekdays in advance to organize the transport and prospective assistance of the station staff.

In any case, a passenger carrying his bike can enter a coach only if there is enough room available. In particular occasions – if required by safety conditions or for any other reason – the service can be temporary suspended.

The passenger carrying his/her bicycle is responsible for any damage to other people, things or himself. Most importantly has to:
• be sure wheels are clean
• follow the signs both at the entrance and exit of the station
• carry his/her bike on his/her shoulders while climbing the stairs. It is forbidden to ride the bicycle and park it within the station
• onboard trains, put your bike across the couch keeping it close to the support poles and preventing it falling. Pay attention not to hinder the flow of people.

Bicycles left on trains/buses

In the event of train/bus evacuation, leave your bike on the couch. In this case – or in case of loss – you can collect it at the train deposit: after having showing the tickets used that day along with a valid ID, the security guards will give you your bike back.
